Heavy snow, whipping winds and pounding rain caused problems for those who chose to drive rather than fly. Up to seven inches of snow has fallen on the midwest. In Atlanta- a weather front that killed four people brought both drivers and airlines to a standstill. Bumper-to-bumper traffic and road rage had the pre-holiday rush off to a rough start across the country. However, there was at least one highway where driving was smooth sailing today- the Pennsylvania turnpike, where tolls were suspended with collectors on strike.
