A Lynchburg taxi driver is recovering after a botched robbery attempt early Sunday morning. 51 year old James Marshall Crawford told police he picked up a man wearing a puffy black jacket shortly after 1 o'clock. The passenger tried to rob Crawford at the intersection of 5th and Polk streets. Crawford got out and started to run when the suspect shot him twice in the neck and shoulder. 22 year old Lance Corporal Demarkus Brown was killed in in action November 19th in Iraq. Yesterday, hundreds of friends and family gathered to remember the Marine, and celebrate his life.

Brown grew up in Martinsville and graduated from Laurel Park High School in 2000, where he excelled in wrestling and track. Family members say he had a dream of serving in the military.

The nation's holiday tree arrives at its final destination later this morning. And for the first time it's a tree from Virginia.

The 70 foot red spruce will reside on the grounds of the U-S Capitol. It was cut from George Washington National Forest earlier this month. School children from around the Old Dominion made five thousand ornaments for its branches.
