The two were well-known in the New River Valley for being political activists.

Milan Goins pled no contest to the 2003 murder of David Bowman.
Today Goins was sentenced to 43 years in prison, but much of it was suspended. He'll end up serving 18.
Goins also attempted to escape after his arrest in North Carolina. He pled no contest to charges from that incident, but has not yet been sentenced.

Just before the penalty phase was about to begin this morning, Peterson's defense attorney brought in a local bartender who may have witnessed juror misconduct.
After a short time in the judge's chambers it was announced the matter had been resolved.
Standing by in the courtroom were the families of both Laci and Scott Peterson.
Also, spectators who stood in line to get a lottery ticket for a seat inside.
Laci's mother is expected to be one of the first witnesses on the stand.
It is still unclear whether Scott will take the stand.

Offensive coordinator and former Redskins receivers coach Terry Robiskie will run the team the rest of the season.
