The school board has abandoned plans to renovate the school and is now looking at building two new smaller ones.

Investigators are working to identify human remains discovered in Roanoke County today.

The skeletal remains were found in a wooded area near the intersection of Hershberger and Plantation roads.
A man walking the property line made the discovery, and called police around 10 am.
Police believe the remains had been in the woods for at least six months. There were no obvious signs of foul play, but the remains were taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for further analysis.

A former Giles County pastor convicted of molesting a child is headed to prison.

A judge sentenced 54 year old Roger Holcomb to 10 and a half years in prison but suspended two years.
He also gave Holcomb 20 years of supervised probation.
Last February a jury convicted Holcomb of taking indecent liberties with a child and two counts of aggravated sexual battery.
The mother of the 8-year old victim wanted to speak out about what happened.

A private jet was forced to make an emergency landing at the Roanoke Regional Airport just before noon.

The plane touched down safely and there were no injuries.

DeJesus replaces Russ Nixon who was re-assigned to Greenville in the Appalachian League. Dejesus spent parts of 15 seasons in the Majors as a short stop and third baseman from 1974 to 1988.

The Salem-Roanoke Baseball Hall of Fame will add five more members at the 12th annual induction ceremony and Hot Stove banquet at the Salem Civic Center February 13th. This years inductees include Roanoke Red Sox standout Milward Quinn, former Salem baseball Board member Bob Johnson, and Salem-Times Register sports reporter Brian Hoffman.

The group also includes former Virginia tech star and big league pitcher Mike Williams who played for several teams and made the 2003 Major League all star team.
Sid Witt rounds out the inductees. He is most known for his work with the little league challenger program for handicapped kids from the Roanoke Valley.

They were joined by Santa Claus and two young girls from Virginia whose Brownie troop sent care packages to U-S forces overseas.
