A North Carolina man was killed when his car was hit by a tractor trailer in Halifax County this morning.

Around 10:30, state police say 70-year-old David Stover of Charlotte was turning onto Route-501 from Route-40 -- when he pulled into the path of a log truck.
The truck broadsided Stover's car, killing him instantly.
Stover's wife ... Margaret ... was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital where she's in stable condition.
No charges are pending.

The 40 year old man was sentenced to life in prison for first degree murder in the shooting death of *Estel Singleton Senior* at an Ironto rest stop.
He rejected a plea agreement that would have given him 40 years in prison.
He says the fact his lawyers insisted he plea bargain proves they don't think he is innocent.
The *mildly retarded* Pritchett confessed to police.
The Virginia Supreme Court granted him a new trial that was meant to start on Wednesday because experts on mental retardation weren't allowed to testify the first time.

Authorities in California were back out at Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch today to conduct a search -- but they are NOT revealing any information as to why.
Jackson is expected to go on trial in January for allegedly molesting a teenaged boy and conspiring to cover it up.

Ukraine's top judges have declared the state's recent presidential election invalid -- and are calling for a new one.

The court delivered the ruling after five days of deliberations, saying a "repeat vote" was required, and that it should take place within a month.
The decision is a legal victory to opposition candidate Viktor Yushchenko (yoo-SHEN'-koh) and tens of thousands of protesters who said the election results were rigged in favor of Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych (yah-noo-KOH'-vich).
Yushchenko is now demanding a quick reshuffling of the nation's election commission.

Two brothers facing charges for their suspected involvement in the vandalism of two Bedford County churches will be arraigned next Tuesday.

Some bad news for people on sugar-free and low-carb diets.
The makers of *sucralose* -- the key ingredient behind the no-calorie sweetener Splenda, are having trouble keeping up with the growing demand.
The world's only manufacturer of sucralose says the company won't take on new U-S customers for at least another year -- or until it can double production at its Alabama plant.
The company has plans to open a second plant in Singapore.
The product now dominates the 337 million-dollar U-S retail market for sugar substitutes.
