It is a sweet win for Tech, as this was just the first year in the conference for the Hokies, after a lenghty expansion process that almost left the school out. But memories of that mess are washed away with a conference title. Virginia Tech is 10-and-2 overall, and will learn tomorrow to which B-C-S bowl it is headed. And Mike Stevens will have all the highlights from today's game a little later in sports.

Seth Greenberg is about the only unhappy camper in Blacksburg tonight. That's because his hardwood Hokies lost on the road at VMI today.

Greenberg was looking a little bleary eyed for good reason in this one.
Lavar Joseph staked the Keydets to a one point halftime lead with shots like this long range bomb from the wing.
Later, Jamon Gordon misses from in close along the baseline, but Carlos Dixon cleaned up the mess with 2 of his 13 points.

But Joseph tallied 19 points as VMI held on for the 72-68 win. It's the Keydets first win over an ACC opponent since 1964.

The Hokie women won their home opener today over Alabama, and the Montgomery County Christmas store was a big winner as well, collecting plenty of Christmas toys from the fans.
Tech placed four players in double figures including Kerri Gardin who gets 2 of her 15 points with the left hand down low.
The Hokies led by 7 at the break, and Dawn Chriss adds to the lead with the lay-in. She finished with 7.

An enormous chocolate nativity scene was unveiled today in Naples, Italy. More than seven-thousand pounds of chocolate went into making the sculpture, which features more than 100-elaborate statues -- including shepherds and animals -- and an angelic-looking Madonna which alone took two weeks to make. Perhaps the best part about the sculpture -- ALL of it is edible. (------------)
