Yesterday the two likely candidates, Attorney General Jerry Kilgore and Lieutenant Governor Tim Kaine, squared off in Richmond. The event was moderated by political analyst Larry Sabato who brought up this week's eavesdropping settlement right off the bat. Top Democrats have criticized Kilgore's handling of the scandal, but the Attorney General maintains it was his office that blew the whistle on the crime. Meanwhile, Kilgore criticized Kaine for being too liberal and out of touch with Virginia values. But the two men do agree on some issues, including the need for a four- year university in Southside.
