Halifax County authorities are waiting on autopsy results to figure out how a man died while burning brush yesterday.

Officials say the fire started shortly after three o'clock at Neal's Corner Road in Clover. 78-year-old *James Wilburn* was found dead after the fire was put out. Preliminary investigations show Wilburn fell and broke his leg -- and was unable to escape as the fire spread. Police say it does appear to be an accident.

One man is in jail tonight, charged with abducting an acquaintance. Witnesses told Roanoke City Police they saw the abudction around 11-thirty this morning in the 52-hundred block of Williamson Road. A car was stopped a short time later on Plantation, where authorities arrested 45 year old Jeffrey Thomas. He's charged with abduction and assault. Thomas is being held at the Roanoke City Jail without bond.

Investigators say Montgomery went to Stinnett's house Thursday under the guise of buying a dog. Stinnett has a dog breeding business on the internet. Officials say they traced e-mails between the two and were able to connect information gathered from an Amber Alert:
Special Agent Jeff Lanza / FBI - those two tips - those two pieces of information came together right about the same time - so we knew we had a pretty good lead when the agents went to the house.
When they arrived Montgomery claimed the baby was her own - but after confronting her about birth records - Montgomery allegedly confessed.

according to the criminal complaint, montgomery told her husband she was coming here to topeka, 4o miles from her hometown, to do some shopping the day of the murder, then called him later that day and told him shed given birth and was waiting at a restaurant parkiing lot with their newborn daughter.
Montgomery had been pregnant with another child that was never born - it is unclear when she lost the baby or under what circumstances.

The ceremony began with a parade of veterans, marching bands, and WWII-era vehicles through Bastogne. Division Three football crowned a new champion today as Linfield and Mary Hardin Baylor each made their very first appearance in the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl in Salem.

Linfield was looking to exorcise some demons of disappointing ends the past four seasons.
On just the third play from scrimmage, Brett Elliott finds Bran Hazenberg in the flat and he scoots down the sideline on a 39 yard scoring play and just like that, the Wildcats led 7-nothing.
It was 7-all before Linfield struck again as Riley Jenkins goes right up the gut on a 14 yard score. Jenkins rushed for 81 yards on the day, and it was 21-13 Cats at the half.
But the Crusaders from Mary Hardin Baylor rallied. Freddie Rollins takes it in on the option from 18 yards out. The two point conversion was good, tying things at 21-all early in the 4th quarter.
But Elliott connected with Jenkins on a 10 yard touchdown pass for the game winner with just under 6 minutes to play.

It's out with the old in Washington.

This morning the old Washington Convention Center was imploded to the cheers of a nearby crowd. In all, it took about 20 seconds to bring down the 22-year-old, 800-thousand-square-foot building. The space will be turned into a 12-hundred space parking lot while a decision is made into what to build on the site.
The building was the fourth-largest convention center in the country when it opened in 1982. Several cities opened lar(------------) ger, more modern centers, though -- making it obsolete.
