The Virginia Education Association plans to lobby for a bigger pay raise when the General Assembly goes into session next month. Governor Mark Warner's proposed budget includes a three percent raise for public school teachers.
However, the V-E-A says it needs five percent for a few years just to get up to the national average. Virginia's teachers get paid about three thousand dollars less than the national average.
