((MILLIONS OF AMERICANS ARE MAKING 2005 THE YEAR TO LOSE WEIGHT.
AND MOST OF THEM SAY THIS TIME THEYRE GOING TO SKIP DIETS LIKE ATKINS

(gfx)A SURVEY DONE FOR HEALTH MAGAZINE FOUND A WHOPPING 65 PERCENT OF
DIETERS PLAN TO USE THEIR OWN STRATEGY.
SO FOR THOSE GOING IT ALONE REGISTERED DIETICIAN SAMANTHA HELER SAYS ONE
STEP TO (gfx)SUCCESS IS ADOPTING A NEW WAY OF EATING NOT JUST A
TEMPORARY FIX.
(SOT-Samantha Heller/NYU School of Medicine)
what you want to do is make lifestyle changes you can keep forever, not
just for ten days or two weeks or a month.
NEXT, HAVE A SOLID PLAN.
DIETERS FAIL WHEN THEY MAKE EATING CHOICES ON THE SPOT... SO ALWAYS KNOW
WHAT YOURE GOING TO EAT AND WHEN.
(SOT-Samantha Heller/NYU School of Medicine)
that's going to help you decide what to buy in the grocery store, you're
going to have it available at home, you may need to bring it to work or
to school.
(STANDUP: Dr. Mallika Marshall/CBS NEWS)
AND DONT STARVE YOURSELF.
MANY WANNA-BE WEIGHT LOSERS QUIT BECAUSE THEY JUST GET TIRED OF BEING
HUNGRY.
SO REMEMBER THE QUALITY OF FOOD IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE QUANTITY.
(SOT-Samantha Heller/NYU School of Medicine)
if you're eating healthy foods and lots of vegetables and lots of whole
grains and beans and fruits, they are going to be lower in calories and
the fiber is going to fill you up and you're not going to be as hungry.
STEP FOUR - SET REALISTIC GOALS FOR YOURSELF... MANY DIETERS QUIT WHEN
THEY DONT SEE THE POUNDS FALLING OFF FAST ENOUGH.
(SOT-Samantha Heller/NYU School of Medicine)
for example 1 to 2 pounds a week if you're going to lose weight is
reasonable, it's not reasonable if you think you are going to lose ten
pounds in a week.
FINALLY, STICK WITH IT.... EVEN IF YOU SLIP EVERY NOW AND AGAIN DONT
GIVE UP.
NO ONE SAID ITS GOING TO BE EASY.
THESE TIPS CAN ONLY START YOU ON THE ROAD TO SUCCESS, THE REST IS UP TO
YOU.
