The president's cabinet will get a little fuller this week. The senate is scheduled to debate the nomination of Carlos Gutierrez to be Commerce Secretary tomorrow before voting to confirm him. Democrats foiled plans to confirm Condoleezza Rice as secretary of state on inauguration day. Debate on her nomination will begin Tuesday, with a vote confirming her- set for Wednesday. Meanwhile, the nomination of Alberto Gonzales to be attorney general should get out of the Senate Judiciary committee in the coming week.

Dozens of new jobs are coming to Pulaski County. BondCote Corporation is adding nearly 30 jobs to its production line. The company makes coated and laminated fabrics for military tents, truck covers and roofing material. The two and a half million dollar expansion will allow a 20 percent increase in production.

Workers at MeadWestcaco in Covington need not worry about their jobs. The company is selling many of its paper mills and thousands of acres of forestland -- but not in Covington. Officials say the deal will let them reduce debt and focus on global packaging.

Plans to expand the Rockydale Quarry are moving ahead thanks to approval from hte Roanoke Planning Commission. Some advocacy groups said they needed more time to review the proposal, but some residents that live nearby came out in support of Rockydale's plan.

The expansion would add 50 acres to the current quarry site and double its life. Rockydale wants to close down parts of Draper and Welcome Valley Roads to reduce truck traffic by up to 90 percent. Berms will be added to reduce the noise and visual pollution.
