With less than a week to go before voting day, insurgents went after the party of the man leading the country towards its first democratic elections in decades.
A suicide car bomber rammed an Iraqi security checkpoint on the road leading to Prime Minister Iyad Allawi's party headquarters.
The attack was as symbolic as it was destructive...no one is safe... And Iraqi police seem powerless to stop the violence.

(NATS...MAN SPEAKING ARABIC)

They are unable to protect themselves, says this man, how can they protect citizens?
It's a feeling echoed across Iraq by locals who fear more violence like this in Sunday's elections.

IRAQI FORCES WILL MAKE UP THE FRONTLINE OF DEFENSE AROUND POLLING STATIONS...BUT US TROOPS WILL BE POSITIONED AROUND THE PERIMETER.
THEY'RE TRYING TO KEEP A LOW PROFILE...THEY DON'T WANT IRAQIS TO FEEL THEY'RE CASING THEIR VOTES UNDER THE SHADOW OF AMERICAN GUNS.
Hours after today's bombing, Iraqi forces said they captured the top bomb maker in Abu Musab al Zarqawi's network.
Iraqi authorities say the suspect has already confessed to involvement in 75 percent of car bomb attacks in the country.
They say he's been in custody for more than a week...but with Zarqawi's group claiming responsibility for the latest attack, the terror network is proving that it can operate without him.
And there's a threat of more to come. In a message posted on an Islamist website, Zarqawi has warned of an "all out" war during Iraq's elections, threatening candidates and voters alike.. telling them to stay home or pay the price. Charlie D'Agata, CBS News, Baghdad.

Warrick Dunn scored just before the two minute warning to make it a 14-to-10 game at halftime. But that was it for Atlanta.
The Eagles intercepted Michael Vick in the third quarter, and held him to just 11 of 24 passing for 136 yards. The Eagles defenders also shutdown Vick's running game. He ran just four times for 26 yards, his lowest total since the first week of the season.
