A Marine reservist from Martinsville is among the U-S servicemen killed today in Iraq.

23 year old corporal Jonathan W. Bowling was one of four Marines killed in an ambush attack.
Before being called to active duty, Bowling was a police officer in Martinsville.
The city police department broke the news of his death late this afternoon.
Bowling was a 2000 graduate of Patrick County High School and a 2002 graduate of Patrick Henry Community College.
Martinsville's police chief says everything about Bowling was "impressive."

In the midst of the General Assembly session, a delegate from Petersburg suddenly resigned today.
Democrat Fenton Bland stepped down after pleading guilty in Richmond federal court to conspiracy to commit bank fraud.
The 42-year-old Bland has been the focus of federal and state investigations into his business dealings.

A suspect is in custody after an armed robbery in Vinton earlier tonight.
A man walked into Belchers Grocery on East Cleveland Avenue just after five-thirty and displayed a firearm.

Officers responded and caught the seventeen year old after a short foot-pursuit.
The firearm and stolen money were recovered.

Ricky Andrew Huffman and Todd Russell Harless were arrested this morning.
A-T-F Agents say the two men told essentially the same story when confronted at work.

Huffman picked up Harless last night around 8:30 and drove to an alley behind 420 Fourteenth Street. According to a federal affidavit, they put a pipe bomb in the trash can and ran.
Harless allegedly bought the parts at Home Depot and the black powder at a gun show at the Civic Center. The criminal complaint says Harless built the pipe bomb at his mother's house in Salem.

((Ryan Frazier's dad is a basketball assistant at Craig County, Matt Pounds father is the Botetourt girls head coach, Seth Adams dad is a Northside middle school basketball coach and Chance Smith's father is William Fleming's head football coach. It is not uncommon for all the dads to attend a Northside game and Billy Pope would not change a thing.

In 19 seasons, Pope has taken the Vikings to the state tournament seven times. Pound, whose dad's girls should be a state playoff contender, is not the only one who has benefited from Pope.

Pope has never heard a negative word form any of his players dad's that are coaches and dinner table conversation has been a a bonding time.

And as far as whether or not the coaches kids receive special treatment, no way and Pope sees the fruits of coming from a coaches home.

Workers at Wilson's Football Division are in full production mode this week.
More than 100 workers have been cutting, stringing and sewing together the balls that will be passed between the Eagles and the Patriots.
They feature the official game stamp, date and Wilson brand.
Workers at the Wilson football factory make an estimated 700-thousand footballs each year. The company has made the official N-F-L game ball since 1941.
