IF IT SNOWS WE'RE GOING TO REMOVE IT IF

WE HAVE TO GO OVER BUDGET TO REMOVE

REMOVE SNOW.

And that's been the case the last few
years.

Last year, the state went over budget
by four million dollars.

The year before, it was nearly 100
million.

Here locally, V-Dot went over budget
by more than two million dollars last
year.

To make it up, the state had to make
some cuts like grass cutting and other
maintenance.

That angered many.

SOT FULL

CHUCK LIONBERGER/V-DOT SPOKESPERSON:
CERTAINLY THEY WEREN'T THRILLED BY THE
FACT WE WEREN'T CUTTING GRASS AND THE
GRASS WAS GETTING VERY TALL BUT WHEN
YOU SPEND A LOT OF MONEY ON SNOW WE
HAVE TO FIND WAYS TO MAKE THAT UP
ELSEWHERE.

But the story may be different next
spring.

So far this year, V-Dot has spent

only about a million dollars of the
10.8 million budgeted for local snow
removal.

If the mild winter continues, cuts
may not be necessary, that's the hope
at least.
