Last night, mourners turned out in
Patrick County to consol his family,
and honor the memory of the young
Marine.

Bowling was one of four Marines from a
Lynchburg reserve unit who died in Iraq
on January 26th, when their convoy was
ambushed by insurgents.

hundreds of people lined up for the
visitation.

GRAPHIC=Legislature A bill that would phaseout the
ENG#=1 car tax is on its way to the House
floor.
Last night, the House
Appropriations Committee approved the
bill that would wipe out the remaining
30 percent of the car tax by the year
2012.
The phaseout was frozen in place
three years ago, and then capped last
year.
In other news from the state
capitol, Virginia's colleges and
universities are one step closer to
becoming more independent.

in favor of a bill that would
restructure the way state schools do
business.
The bill would require schools to
release six year financial plans for

make a pitch for the NASCAR Hall of
Fame.
Officials in Henrico County, home
of the Richmond International Raceway,
have submitted a letter of intent to
NASCAR. A formal proposal is due by May
31st.
NASCAR hopes to have a site
picked for its Hall of Fame by the end
of the year.
Other cities competing for the
Hall include Daytona Beach, Kansas
City, Atlanta and Charlotte.

And that's been the case the last few
years.
Last year, the state went over budget
by four million dollars.
The year before, it was nearly 100
million.
Here locally, V-Dot went over budget
by more than two million dollars last
year.
To make it up, the state had to make
some cuts like grass cutting and other
maintenance.
That angered many.

only about a million dollars of the

removal.
If the mild winter continues, cuts
may not be necessary, that's the hope
at least.

over by her own car.
Police say 81-year-old Ann Slover
may have been warming up the vehicle
when she got out and knocked it into
reverse.
Slover got caught underneath as the
car rolled out her driveway, across a
neighbor's yard and into Franklin
Street.
A passing motorist saw her and
called for help.
Slover died at the hospital.

ENG#=2 on a Blacksburg home police believe was
an ecstasy lab.

authorities raided the home on Clay
Street Monday afternoon.
According to a search warrant
affidavit, an informant tipped police
off to the lab AND told police a man
had been making and selling ecstasy
there for the last two years.
Officers say they found the
equipment and chemicals used to make
the drug.
So far no charges have been
placed.

Last night, the House
Appropriations Committee approved the

make a pitch for the NASCAR Hall of
Fame.
Officials in Henrico County, home
of the Richmond International Raceway,
have submitted a letter of intent to
NASCAR. A formal proposal is due by May
31st.
NASCAR hopes to have a site
picked for its Hall of Fame by the end
of the year.
Other cities competing for the
