Danville police shot a suspect who
ENG#=1 was trying to get away.

It happened around 5 yesterday
afternoon, on North Main Street in
Danville.

The suspect, Corey Lee Walters, was
wanted on several criminal charges

Authorities say they'd been looking
for the 26-year-old when they got
information that he was in the north
end of the city.

Walters was riding in, but Walters
reportedly shoved the driver out of the
car and attempted to drive off.

That's when he allegedly struck a
Danville police officer and several
other officers began firing at the
vehicle.

shot by police in Danville.

It happened around 5, on North Main
Street in Danville.

Authorities say they'd been looking
for 26-year-old Corey Lee Walters when
they got information he was in the
north end of the city.

Walters was riding in, but Walters
reportedly shoved the driver out of the
car and attempted to drive off.

That's when he allegedly struck a
Danville police officer and several
other officers began firing at the
vehicle.

to provide *medevac* service in Western
Virginia.

Currently the I-77 corridor falls
into a gap between Carilion's
helicopter base in Roanoke, and bases
in far Southwest Virginia and
Charleston West Virginia.

Response time for accidents and
emergencies ranges from 30 to 50
minutes.

When the new helicopter begins

operation in early April, that time
will drop into the 10 to 20 minute
range.

The chopper will be based in the
Wythe and Smyth County area.

It will bring more volunteers

It happened around 5 yesterday
afternoon, on North Main Street in
Danville.

The suspect, Corey Lee Walters, was
wanted on several criminal charges

Authorities say they'd been looking
for the 26-year-old when they got
information that he was in the north
end of the city.

reportedly shoved the driver out of the
car and attempted to drive off.

other officers began firing at the

provide *medevac* service in Western
Virginia.

The chopper will be based in the
Wythe and Smyth County area.

ENG#1 A man wanted on several criminal

charges is in the hospital after being
shot by police in Danville yesterday
afternoon.

Officers pulled over the car
26-year-old Corey Lee Walters was
riding in, but Walters reportedly
shoved the driver out of the car and
attempted to drive off.

That's when he allegedly struck a
Danville police officer and several
other officers began firing at the
vehicle.

Walters was shot in the face,
but his injuries are not considered
serious.
