their apartments in Roanoke yesterday.

Apartments, they found heavy flames and
smoke in the entire back portion of a
building.
More than two dozen people got out
safely.
Officials say a four year old
started the fire, and Deva Kofa (diva
co-fah) says it began in her daughter's
bedroom.

kept firefighters busy near Vinton.
Fire officials say they were sent
to Deer Ridge Road near Hardy Road
around 5 o'clock, where someone had
accidently set about two acres of
undeveloped property on fire.
Firefighters needed about
30-minutes to get it under control.
No one was injured.

ENG#=4 battling a 32-story building fire in
Madrid.

Crews have been on the
scenes for hours and their work isn't
ending anytime soon- officials say the
skyscraper is threatening to collapse.
The fire began Saturday night and
has already toppled the upper
six-floors of the structure.
Plumes of smoke continue to pour
from the building and roads surrounding
the area have been closed for several
blocks.
The cause of the fire is not
known, but an emergency services
spokesman said firefighters think it
might have been a short circuit in the
wiring.

ENG#=1 who ran out on her family and took
money from her employer- is back in the
Roanoke Valley.

25-year-old Melinda Bond is
at the Roanoke County Jail.
Deputies tell News 7 she
was brought in just before *four
o'clock* Saturday morning.
Bond returned after waiving
extradiction from Las Vegas.
Initially police
investigated her case

November -- after she failed to report
to work at the Bojangle's in Salem.
Days later- the owner
discovered money from her shifts was
missing.
She's held without bond and
is due in court Tuesday morning.

retirement of James Bullington, owner
of the Tavern. .
Bullington presented the key to
his son Matt, with the confidence that
nothing would change.

HAS THE SAME FEEL FOR IT THAT I DO. I
JUST LOVE THIS PLACE DEARLY AND HE IS

HERE CRYING.
Throughout the afternoon everyone
shared their stories of those late
nights behind the Tavern Bar serving
food, and in front of the bar eating
it, and no one had more stories than
James Bullington, who now has to get
used to living life on the other side
of the Tavern Bar.

ENG#=3 to control flames that have a
skyscraper near collapse.

Crews have been on the
scenes for hours and their work isn't
ending anytime soon- officials say the
skyscraper is fully involved.
The fire began Saturday night and
has already toppled the six-upper
floors of the structure.
Plumes of smoke continue to pour
from the building and roads surrounding
the area have been closed for several
blocks.
The cause of the fire is not
known, but an emergency services
spokesman said firefighters think it
might have been a short circuit.

Firefighters were called to
Sterlingwood Apartments just after
noon.

heavy flames and smoke in the entire
back portion of an apartment building.
More than two dozen people got
out safely.
Officials say a four year old
started the fire - Deva Kofa (diva
co-fah) says it began in her daughter's
bedroom.

kept firefighters busy near Vinton.
Fire officials say they were sent
to Deer Ridge Road near Hardy Road
around 5 p.m., where someone had
accidently set about two acres of
undeveloped property on fire.
Firefighters needed about thirty
minutes to get it under control.
No one was injured.

ENG#=1 with high, rushing waters after a
strong storm hit parts of the state
Saturday.

The severe weather forced
authorities to close portions of four
highways because of rock slides and
flooding.
The storms drove dozens of people
from threatened homes.
Some residents were evacuated
because of rising creeks and rivers.
Others were stranded by
flooding at low water crossings.
A number of precautionary
evacuations were also ordered.
The extreme conditions are blamed
on the heavy rains and melting snow
caused many rivers and streams to
swell.
At this point, no one is believed
to have been injured.
