know sometime today when victims of a
weekend apartment fire can go back
home.

Saturday Authorities say a four-year-old child
started the fire, damaging 12-units,
and forcing about three dozen people
out of their homes.


Some of the residents have found
shelter at vacant apartments within the
complex, while others are getting

GRAPHIC=Iraq Casualty Lynchburg has lost another young man


to the war in Iraq.

The Defense Department indentified the
soldier as 26 year old Staff Sergeant
Kristopher L. Shepherd.

The Pentagon says he died Friday in
Baghdad when an *improvised* explosive
device detonated during clearing
operations.

Shedherd's family says he had already
completed a tour of duty in
Afghanistan.

He leaves behind a wife and two
children.

with Governor Mark Warner after talking
to their local delegates and senators.

They're pushing for passage of
the Textbook Market Fairness Act.

It's a bill that would require
Virginia professors to post book lists
for their classes in advance.

capitol-city to say "thank-you" -- for
the Senate's budget plan that allots
money to repair their barracks roof.

meet the increased demand for health
care workers. The Health Sciences major
is for students who want to go into the
medical field, but don't necessarily
want to be doctors.

like Nursing, Physical Therapy and

Pharmacy.

Officials say through partnerships with
other colleges, students are guaranteed
a seat in graduate school, in far less

GRAPHIC=Shooting A shooting in Danville has left a
ENG#=None man in critical condition.



Officials say the 21-year-old man
was shot in the head in the parking lot
of North Hills Apartments early
yesterday morning.

He was taken into surgery at Danville
Regional Medical Center where at last
report, he remains unresponsive.

Officials are not releasing the
victim's name at this time.
