They met behind closed doors for about
an hour and a half, and were scheduled
to reconvene at noon.

closed a section of Route 58 in Patrick
County.

A spokesman for VDOT says the
wreck is on Lover's Leap Mountain near
the community of Vesta.

Both the eastbound and westbound
lanes are blocked and officials say it
will take several hours to clear up the

man who lost his hand earlier this
week.

The sheriff's office has been
investigating the incident which
initially came in as an accident.


47-year-old William Mark Lunsford
called 9-1-1 Tuesday afternoon stating
his hand had been crushed when a jack
slipped and trapped his hand between
the floor and the car.

Lunsford says he was forced to
cut off his hand at the wrist to
survive.

But, investigators question that
story saying they found two bloody
syringes, a bloody surgical scalpel and
a bottle of lidocaine and epinephrine.

They also say- the hand, which
could have be re-attached - was in good
condition and not crushed.

Earlier this week, board members
passed a motion to continue plans to
refurbish the War Memorial.

The group voted unanamiously to
put out requests to architectual and
engineering firms for designs for the
facility.

On the table were three different
designs with varying costs.

The council decided to go for
"Option B" with a pricetag of
one-point-eight million dollars.

That would encompass extensive
first floor restorations and an
expansion of the parking area.

Officials say the town is still

about two-months away from selecting a
firm to do the work, but this is a step
in the right direction.

Cooper lost her ring down the drain of
a kitchen sink while giving her baby a
bath.


Nearly four decades later, some
utility workers found the ring while
making repairs to a sewer line.

the initials that matched the ring's
inscription.
