KATHY SAMARASINGHE: WHERE DO YOU START.
WHERE DO CHOOSE SOMETHING TO BEGIN
WITH, BECAUSE EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK IT'S
DESTROYED.
Visiting the coastal regions where Dr.
Samarasinghe grew up they found that
medical needs WERE being addressed, and
while people were crowded into refugee
camps, there was enough food and water
to sustain them.
But it also became apparent that a full
recovery will be more complicated.

BE PSYCHOLOGICALLY AFFECTED BY IT. THEY
ARE AFRAID OF THE SEA. AND I THINK THEY

I DON'T THINK THAT'S HAPPENING AS MUCH

There were some bright spots, like the
efforts of U.S. Military personnel who
brought in heavy equipment, hauled away
debris and helped re-open a school in

The Samarasinghes used money raised in
Roanoke to purchase a new science lab,
sewing machines and refrigerators for
the students there.
They plan to return later this year,

recovery effort that is just beginning.

Hurricanes vs. Hokies Miami Coach Frank Haith was on the
:00 sidelines despite an emergency
appendectomy on Thursday.
Early on the Hokies using the fast
break... Carlos Dixon with the lob
pass to Deron Washington who gets the
Piggy Back ride along with the slam...
Washington one of 4 Hokies in double
figures with 10 points on the night...
Later, Dixon will keep the rock this
time and drain the 3 from the corner.
It was his only 3 of the game...
A Hokie trademark this season has
been their defense-- no change in
that--off the steal they pass ahead to
Coleman Collins who knows how to
finish... the sophomore led Tech in
scoring with 18...
The Hokies shared the ball all
night. Zabian Dowdell ends up with
another 3. Virginia Tech moves into a
4th place tie in the ACC with a 7 and 6
conference record.
*CG final Miami Hokies are back on the court next
