Gusts upwards of 45mph blew snow around
like sand on Bent Mountain's backroads
Wednesday, drifting snow as high as 10
feet along some secondary roadways.

On Tinsley lane, not one but multiple
snow drifts kept residents from getting
in and out for several hours.



Ordinary snow plows proved to be
inneffective on the drifts. Heavy duty
snowblowers were brought in to
litterally slice through the mounds of
packed snow.

Today they were rescued. A State
Police helicopter reached the pair this
morning at Grayson Highlands State
Park.

The two men from Bristol spent
the weekend in the park, but got
trapped in Monday's snowstorm.

Officials started a search after
a friend got concerned about where they
were.

A park ranger says the pair found
shelter in a cabin, saw the helicopter
flying overhead today and flagged it
down.

Richardson was sentenced this morning
on several charges including second
degree and attempted murder.

Last April, Richardson went to
Craig County to confront his
ex-girlfriend who *CG file April 2004 worked as a caregiver to 65-year-old :10 QUICK Richard Sarver.

Richardson attacked the two,
doused them in gasoline and tried to
set them on fire.

Sarver later died.

Richardson was sentenced to
30-years in prison, 10-years probation
and ordered to pay more than
55-thousand dollars in restitution.

search on a couple of former players
who are now making a name for
themselves as assistant coaches in the

college ranks.

:00 VMI hall of famer Ramon Williams
who was an assistant coach at VMI for
nine seasons and an associate head
coach on post in 1999, is now in his
third season at the University of
Richmond.

Ramon starred at Fleming under
Burrall Paye before becoming an
all-Southern Conference performer for
the Keydets.

He and Twin Damon were incucted
into the hall of fame in 2001.

job. Like Williams, Preston has
numerous local ties. He is a Boones
Mill native, who came to VMI as a
walk-on and left in 1993 as an

all-Conference performer with four
school records to his credit.

together on the historic night,
producing a car count well in excess of
a hundred entries, and speeds well over

TRAVIS WELLS: The top 20 cars in the
field will be set in qualifying on
September 2nd, while the Saturday party

gets started with a 50 mile heat race,

site in Viero, Florida and today the
new team played its first game of the
preseason against the Mets.

This one knotted up a three-all
in the sixth when Jeffrey Hammonds hit
this grounder to third baseman Miguel
Cairo. He booted the ball and allowed
Jamey Carroll to score the eventual
winning run.

The Nationals added to their lead
in the bottom of the eighth inning,
when Brendan Harris singled to center
field off Mike Matthews to score
Carroll and give the Nationals a 5-to-3
lead.
