ENG#=2 Washington Nationals at work in spring

training.

Yesterday that training proved
worthwhile -- as the Nats played their
first preseason game against the Mets.

VO-NAT VO-NAT

This one knotted up a three-all
in the sixth, when Jeffrey Hammonds hit
this grounder to third baseman Miguel
Cairo.

He booted the ball and allowed
Jamey Carroll to score the eventual
winning run.

The Nationals added to their lead
in the bottom of the eighth inning,
when Brendan Harris singled to center
field off Mike Matthews to score
Carroll.

That gave the Nationals a 5-to-3
lead. *CG final Washington
