GRAPHIC=Fire A Botetourt County firefighter is
ENG#=None improving after being injured in a fire
last week at his own home.
Donald Keller is in good
condition today at Roanoke Memorial
Hospital.
On Thursday night he came home to
his house in Buchanan, only to find it
in flames.
Keller rushed in to battle the
blaze and was overcome by smoke.
He was rescued, but suffered
smoke inhalation and later a heart
attack.
He's currently battling pneumonia
brought on by an infection.
Coming up tonight on News 7 at
six, we'll have more on Keller and what
the community is doing for him.

accident in Buena Vista that killed one
person and seriously injured another.
Shortly after 11 last night,
police say a car driven by Charles
Scott Golden of Buena Vista ran off of
Old Buena Vista Road and hit an
embankment.
The passenger, Thomas Preston
Lunsford the Second was pronounced dead
at the scene.
Golden was medflighted to
Lynchburg General Hospital where he
remains in critical condition.
Neither were wearing seatbelts.

springtime demand are combining to push
up prices.
A Lundberg Survey says the average
price of self-serve regular is now a
dollar-97 a gallon.
But not all experts think gas prices
will climb much higher than two dollars
a gallon. Some analysts say they
wouldn't be surprised if OPEC increases
supplies to help meet the demand.

injured aboard a submarine three days
after Pearl Harbor.
Now more than 60 years later, he

attention as he received his long
awaited Purple Heart.
The medal is given out to service
men or women injured by enemy action in
war.

aboard the USS Seadragon.
The submarine was docked in the
Philippines when the navy shipyard came
under attack.

BOMBS, AND THERE WAS NOTHING LEFT WHEN
THEY GOT THROUGH
The Seadragon's sister ship took
a direct hit, Killam says the
concussion from the blast knocked him
from his boats hatch.

CONNING TOWER DOWN TO THE CONTROL ROOM
DECK IS ABOUT 12, 13 FEET SOMETHING
LIKE THAT, AND I WENT HANDS AND LEGS IN

Killam landed on the tip of his
spine but never did get the injury
officially checked.

63 years later Killam got a call
from a Navy historian, saying they had
gathered enough evidence to award him
the Purple Heart, despite the lack of
official paper work.
Killam's family and friends were
noticibly moved as the former Chief
Electrition of the U.S.S. Seadragon
recieved his purple heart.

Killam plans on passing the medal
on to his grandson and says that was
one of the main reasons he has been

can help men prevent a heart attacks,
but new research finds that's not true
for middle-age women.
While it may not prevent heart
attacks in women, a new study shows
aspirin does help prevent strokes in

The findings were reported today at
