ENG#=1 check fraud ring that may have been

operating in several counties.

Nine-men and one woman are behind
bars today after the Sheriff's Office
says they stole payroll checks from a
local business and tried to cash them.

Just after noon yesterday,

authorities responded to
two-simultaneous calls from the Bank of
Botetourt in Daleville and Buchanan.

One man escaped authorities and
led them on a manhunt for several
hours.

He was eventually apprehended.

Authorities say similar events
and circumstances have been reported in
Roanoke County and Raleigh County, West
Virginia.

is moving swiftly through the courts.

February 4 He's the suspect in a fatal
shooting last month outside the Annwil
Grocery on Rugby Boulevard. Desiree
Jennings- -the mother of Jones' two
children- -bled to death where she fell
inside the store.

In addition to murder, Jones now

faces four firearms charges. Jones
also allegedly took at shot at
Desiree's sister, Rose.

A Juvenile and Domestic Relations
judge certified charges against Jones,
just hours before a grand jury indicted
him on six felonies. He's being held
without bond.

The suspect is expected to plead
guilty tomorrow.

Aamir Brown will enter a guilty
plea to charges stemming from the
murder and robbery of Brian Gray and
the shooting of Forrest Hart. That's
according to the Commonwealth's
Attorney.

ENG#=4 solved two motel robberies in Pulaski

County.

January In January the Holiday Inn
Express in Dublin was robbed at
gunpoint.

The next day the Super 8 Motel
was robbed with a knife.

Over the weekend the Pulaski
County Sheriff's office arrested Ricky
Dale Simpkins and Gene Gallimore and
charged them with several felonies.

Timothy Eastridge was also picked
up and charged with one felony count of
conspiracy related to one of the
robbieries.

County have a new contract.

approved a new four year deal on
Friday.

The deal includes wage and
pension increases.

Since December, the two sides had
been working on a new contract and
severence benefits for 300-workers
being laid off.

The plant is discontinuing

household goods.

connection with a multi-million dollar
cigarette smuggling ring.

was announced in the Spring of 2003.

Some nine million dollars worth
of contraband cigarettes were smuggled
from Virginia, where taxes were low, to
California.

A federal prosecutor says the
tax loss to the two states came to
