(END SOT) For yet another weekend residents

in Southwest Virginia woke up to this.

The early morning snow quickly
accumulated into an inch or two in some
areas, forcing some SAT sites to cancel
the test.

However, by eleven o'clock
Roanoke had dried out, and the students
taking the newly redesigned SAT at
William Fleming High School, were
inside filling in their answers.

:06 DAN DECK:I WAS HOPING THAT WE WOULD
GET IT CANCELED BUT I FIGURED THEY

DIDN'T REALLY CANCEL THIS TYPE OF
THING.

After more than four hours of
testing, students began to trickle out
of the classrooms.

Some students taking the test for
the second time say the new SAT's were
considerably different from what they
have seen in the past.

:11 CHRISTINE DAMICO:IT WAS A WHOLE LOT
HARDER. IT TOOK A WHOLE LOT LONGER
TIME. THE READING COMPREHENSION WAS
HARD. I KIND OF LIKED THE ANALOGIES
FROM LAST TIME AND THEY GOT TAKEN OUT.

The new test replaces the analogy
section with an essay section.

Essays are scored from one to
six.

A score of one is fundamentally
lacking, while a six demonstrates clear
and consistent mastery.

Students just hope they gave the
SAT board what they're looking for.

:08 MARK GROGAN:YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT
THEY WANT ON IT. THEY JUST GIVE YOU A
TOPIC AND YOU JUST HAVE TO WRITE ABOUT
IT. SO IT WAS REALLY HARD TO FIGURE IT

Thousands gathered along the banks of

water to dye it green.

The tradition began in 19-62 with an

environmental concerns.

The water changes color in only
