Take Scam Boards Take Scam Boards
A company calling themselves Nationwide
Security Line is contacting people in
the viewing area and telling them that
their bank account has shown up on
their security line and they need
verification of the account number. In
a twist on this type of Pfishing
scheme, one local consumer, who gave
the person on the phone her account
number was told that she would receive
a perscription discount card that would
save her 30-60% and cost her a one time
$399 fee. Getting her account number
wasn't enough- the caller wanted to rip
her off some more.
Remember- you should NEVER "verify"
account numbers or social security
numbers to someone who calls you on the
phone- you just don't know who's on the
other end.
and according to the website Fraud.org
If you get an uninvited call, email, or
knock at your door to sell you a
perscription discount card, it's a
scam. Under the medicare discount card
program, companies can advertise their
cards by mail, television, radio, and
newspapers or other print media. But
they are not allowed to call, send
emails, or come to your home to sign
you up for their cards unless you asked
them to. They also don't cost more
than a $30 fee.
Steve on Camera Steve on Camera
Nationwide Security Line is actually a
company called Utilities & Petroleum
Promotions in W. Vancouver- According
to the better business bureau they are
typical of the cross border groups that
use telemarketing to scam money from US
citizens. If a consumer provides their
bank account number, they need to
notify their bank immediately because
this company will remove money from
their accounts as soon as they can.
They are preying on the consumer's fear
of someone having their account number.
So if they call, just tell em' don't
call us- we'll call you.
