bond for Zachary Linkous, saying he
questioned whether Linkous would have
proper supervision if he was released.

For the first time today, the
defendant took the stand and spoke
about the charges against him.

accident... the shooting death of his
15 year old friend Edward Bertrand. The
statement was part of his testimony
during a bond hearing.



Bertrand was shot in the stomach last
June in the garage of

this Christiansburg Home on Spruce
Street.



During his testimony he admited to
running from the crime scene and trying
to destroy or hide the murder weapon.



He said quote, "I was very scared. It
was a very shocking thing to happen. I
was scared and I did try to make a
phone call . I wanted to know if he was
okay and I called 911 too.">>

We also learned today that a
major reason Linkous is charged with
first degree murder is that two inmates
in jail with him have come forward.

They claim Linkous told them he
intentionally shot Bertrand.

Rachel, what did the defense say
about these develoments?

RACHEL

The defense is really questioning
these inmates that have come forward.

Defense Attorney Jimmy Turk says
he thinks these people are just
latching on to Linkous, making up
stories hoping to get a lesser sentence
themselves.

Of course we'll see how this all
plays out in court.

A trial date will be set in
April.

residence at a Campbell County church.

more than twenty minutes to bring this
blaze on Micklin Lane under control
around 1 a-m.

The single-story building served
as a weekend retreat for the pastor of
the adjacent Liberty Baptist Church ...
he was not there when the fire broke
out.

Authorities say the blaze
apparently started near the circuit
breaker box in the rear of the
building, but the cause is still being
investigated.

this week.

He can no longer hold classes at
the stadium's boxing gym- because
Victory Stadium was shut down last

week-

Engineers found the structure's
brick facade unsafe.

While Miller did get some
equipment, that too was brought to a
halt. He was told he'd have to go back
next week to get the rest.
