Around 5 o'clock, witnesses say a
white male approached the railing on
the southbound side of the Rivermont
Bridge, and jumped over it headfirst.

He fell an estimated 150 feet,
hitting a patch of trees before hitting
the ground.

36 year old Paul Passalacqua was
still alive when rescue crews found
him. He was taken to U-V-A after being
rushed to Lynchburg General Hospital
first.

The bridge has been the scene of
numerous suicides over the past few

decades, and many people have pushed
the city to install higher railings to
prevent people from jumping off.
