one in the morning, when two men in a
stolen Mack truck, failed to pay a toll
in Beckly West Virginia.

:05 SGT. CARPENTIERI:AS THE TROOPER
ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE TRACTOR THE
DRIVER REFUSED TO STOP AND THAT LEAD
POLICE ON A 75 MILE CHASE.

Authorities say the driver
reached 85 miles per hour during the
chase and was not just sticking to the
eastbound lanes of Interstate 64.

LANES, HE ALSO THROUGH SOME BEER CANS

WEST VIRGINIA STATE POLICE CONDUCTED
THE ALLEGHANY DEPUTIES AND WARNED THEM
THAT THE CHASE WOULD BE CONTINUING INTO
VIRGINIA, AND ASKED FOR THE DEPUTIES
ASSISTANCE IN STOPPING THE STOLEN
TRUCK.

Alleghany and West Virginia
officers deployed numerous spike
strips, but they say that didn't phase
the massive truck.


Near mile marker 19 in Alleghany
County, police say the tractor crashed
into a guard rail.

Three Alleghany deputies,
thinking the chase was over, got out of
their patrol cars, but the chase didn't
stop there.

AROUND AND POINTED THE NOSE OF THE
TRACTOR BACK TOWARDS THE OFFICERS, AND
THEN HE PROCEEDS TO COME AT THEM WITH
THE VEHICLE.

That's when Alleghany Deputies
opened fire.

:15 SGT. CARPENTIERI:AFTER THE SHOTS
WERE FIRED THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE
RIGHT AND TRAVELED INTO THE WEST BOUND
LANES CRASHED THROUGH A GUARD RAIL AND
WENT DOWN AN EMBANKMENT.

The driver was shot in the head
and was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial.

The passenger, 36 year old James
Dean Blair of Ashland Kentucky, was
arrested for being drunk in public.

Alleghany Sheriff, Dale
Muterspaugh says his deputies have been
placed on administrative leave, pending
further investigation of the shooting.

they nabbed an alleged cocaine dealer
in an apartment complex parking lot.

Boston with four counts of crack
cocaine distribution.

The county sheriff's department says
Friday's arrest ends a four-month
investigation.

roadblock.

Last month, the General Assembly passed
legislation that was intended to keep
liquor out of the hands of those under
21 at private parties.

But the Senate added *an amendment* to
the bill that its supporters believe
reverses the purpose of the bill.

They are now appealing to Governor Mark
Warner to fix the problem.

The Senate's amendment basically keeps
the existing law in place.

The law now allows people who hold
parties in their own homes to serve
alcohol to anyone regardless of their
age.

Verizon's phone directories.

complained to regulators about those
errors -- that include wrong or missing
listings and numbers.

The State Corporation Commission plans

If it failed to make changes, Verizon
could face fines up to five-thousand
dollars per offense.

Children and parents gathered at
Wasena Park for the *Egg-Strava-Ganza.*

Roanoke City's parks and
recreation oversaw the event.

The hunting started around 10
this morning when kids started picking
up the hundreds of eggs laid out for
them.

The Easter Bunny even hopped his
way into the picture and spent some
time with the kids.

Easter isn't officially until the
27th, but that didn't seem to bother
any of the children at today's egg
hunt.
