School officials had been
planning to hold a fire drill later in
the day.
Before they could, someone
spotted smoke coming from a girls
bathroom near an auxilury gym.
The fire cause little damage, but
did prove disruptive.

morning.

Bonaparte was killed during an argument
with her twin brother inside her mobile
home on Halifax Road.
Police say Larry Ray Nielson
stabbed his sister several times in the
chest, back, stomach and arms.

that Bonaparte was ten weeks pregnant.
Nielson is being held without
bond, charged with murder.

This Season This afternoon Redick was named a

Associatec press. The ACC Player of the
Year has already been named a
first-team All American by the United
States Basketball Writers Association,
the National Association of Basketball
Coaches, ESPN.com and
CollegeInsider.com. In addition to
being one of five finalists for the
Rupp Trophy, he is one of four
finalists for the Naismith Player of
the Year Trophy, as well.
Redick has led Duke to a 27-5
record averaging over of 22 points per
game.

1:10 has not stopped Tincher. She has been
named ACC player of the week twice. She
has nearly half of Tech's 27 victories,
has a .77 ERA, and has amassed 192
strikeouts but adjusting to the next
level has been challenging.

At 13 and 2, Tincher is on pace to
equal her James River 22 and 2 state
championship senior season. For the 19
year old, being close to her home in
Buchanan has been nice and the added
college distance from the plate to the
mound has not been a big deal either.

Roanoke County's new public safety
center will soon be rising from a site
on Cove Road.

This morning, residents of the
neighborhood joined county officials to
break ground for the 28- million dollar
project.
The new building will house the county
police department, fire and rescue
offices, and the information technology
department. The complex will also
include a new emergency communications
dispatch center.
Despite concerns about traffic and
potential noise, residents who attended
today's ceremony said they are pleased
with the project, and believe most of
their neighbors have accepted it.
