skin infections that may require
amputation. We know this was the case
for at least one of the Lakeview
residents.

The common form of the bacterium is
typically spread through personal

A tractor and trailer hauling
scrap metal was hit by a train this
afternoon in Southwest Roanoke.

Officials say around 2:30 this
afternoon a truck delivering a load to
Virginia Scrap Iron was hit by a
Norfolk Southern train near the
29-hundred block of Roanoke Avenue.

Employees at nearby Hanson Pipe
and Product say they didn't see
anything, but they definitely heard the

GRAPHIC=Gamble A well-known Baptist minister who

served a Roanoke congregation for more
than 30 years has died. Harry Y. Gamble
Sr. passed away today following a brief
illness.

Gamble came to Calvary Baptist Church
in March, 1946, and served as pastor
until his retirement in 1978. In the
years since, he served as an interim
pastor and a frequent guest preacher in
area churches.

Gamble was 88 years old.

A funeral service is scheduled at
Calvary Baptist on Monday at 1pm.

but it won't happen this year.

October 9, 2004 Fans of the annual Polo Cup will
have to wait until 2006 before they do
any divot stomping.

The Symphony's Board of Directors
says the Polo Cup event wasn't meeting
their goals as a fundraiser.

The symphony grosses just under
100-thousand from the event, however
expenses for the Polo Cup are as high
as 90-thousand.

The symphony hopes with an extra
year to prepare, the cup will be more
of a fundraising success.
