IT SEEMED THE POPE WAS TRYING TO SPEAK,
BUT HE WAS UNABLE TO. HE STILL HAS A
TUBE IN HIS WINDPIPE TO HELP HIM

THE POPE HAD TRIED TO SPEAK PUBLICLY IN
TWO WEEKS.

There's been a great deal of
speculation here in Rome about just how
ill the pope is. He did take part in
Good Friday ceremonies but only via a
live tv hook-up from his private chapel
in the Vatican.

John Paul The Second's frail health

Yet this is the first time in his

second missed-out on most of holy week.

And the true state of his health is
still a mystery to those beyond his
