warrant and it reveals police are
investigating a person who apparently
is a Virginia Tech student.

Officers executed a search warrant at
the Terrace View Apartments in
Blacksburg last week.
Police allege Edwin Park was running
an illegal gambling operation out of
his apartment.
According to the search warrant, the
game was running almost every night and
thousands of dollars were being
exchanged.
The investigation reveals the house
reserved the right to a minimal rake of
10-percent each hand.
Also, a Computer kept track of
the players and how much money they
were spending.
We went by the apartment today and
the person who answered the door says
Park's is his roomate and that he is a
Virginia Tech student.
As we were leaving, a man showed up.
We asked him if he was Edwin Park. He
said yes but then declined to comment
any further.

The search warrant also says police
sent in an undercover officer after
getting a tip about the Texas Hold Em
games.
It's important to point out no one
has been arrested but police did say
they expect to make arrests in the next
few days.

QUESTION: We know a lot of people play
these types of games. Is that illegal?
Shannon, it's not illegal to
take part in a poker game, but it can't
be run by an operator who makes money

Last Thursday, the department
launched an undercover investigation
called "Operation Red Light" -- to
eliminate prostitution in the Southwest
part of the city.
The operation was initiated last
summer in response to complaints from
residents.

looking for the suspect in a fatal
shooting from early this morning.
Police say 41 year old Tony Dale
Martin, of Concorde, and a friend were
in the area of 8th and 10th streets
when Martin was shot once in the chest.
His friend drove him to Lynchburg
General Hospital where he died.

earthquake today off the west coast of
Indonesia.

Officials say more than seventy percent
of the houses in one community are in
ruins.
The quake measured eight-point-seven on
the Richter scale and rumbled for two
minutes.
It also prompted fears of another
tsunami like the one that hit the area

Experts say today's quake was an
aftershock of that quake, and that a
tsunami is possible.

college to the NBA - they may find a
willing and able Marc Iavaroni. The
1978 UVA grad has been coaching in the
NBA for the past six years with the
Heat and now the Suns as an assistant.
Iavaroni was a member of UVa's
only ACC title team in 1976, plus he
was a graduate assistant at Virginia in
1981 and he also worked on UVa radio
network in the mid-90s.
He is a link to the past that
might be able to lead UVa into the
future.
