prostitution is a problem -- and
they're cracking down on it.

Last Thursday, the department
launched an undercover investigation
called "Operation Red Light" -- to
eliminate prostitution in the Southwest
part of the city.
The operation was initiated last
summer in response to complaints from
residents.
So far, police have made at least
12 arrests.
Officers hope that by eliminating
prostitution they'll do away with other
criminal activities associated with it.

Facility has come through the worst.
The Health department says the
faciliy can now accept new residents.
That's because it's been two
weeks with no new cases of the
infectious Group A Strep.

79 year old Bertha Woodby was

reported in 1999- that's according to
the Centers for Disease Control.
Just 600 of those cases turned
into Necrotizing Fasciitis

They've both been charged with
soliciting sex from the same
17-year-old Bedford County girl.

after traveling from Maryland to Forest
to have sex with a teen he'd met in an
Internet chat room.
Police say the girl did the same

central to an illegal gambling
operation in Blacksburg.

Officers executed a search warrant at
the Terrace View Apartments in
Blacksburg last week.
Police allege Edwin Park was running
an illegal gambling operation out of
his apartment.
According to the search warrant, the
game was running almost nightly -- and
thousands of dollars were being
exchanged.
The investigation reveals the house
reserved the right to a minimal take of
10-percent each hand.
A computer kept track of
the players and how much money they
were spending.
The person who answered the
apartment door yesterday, said Park is
his roomate.
A man who claimed to be Park,
declined to comment on the
investigation.
