ENG#=3 another resident of Friendship's

Lakeview assisted living facility has
died after contracting Group A

Streptococcus. The patient's name has
not been released.

This is the second person from the
facility to die from an infection.

Three other Lakeview residents also
contracted a severe form of the
bacterium. One had to have her leg
amputated to save her life. There are
also 13 others who have tested positive
with the Strep A. The majority of them
did not have any symptoms.

Health officials inspected Lakeview
again on Monday and say the facility
exceeds the expectations for infection
control.

Group A Streptococcus is a bacterium
that is spread through personal
contact. It is the same bug that causes
strep throat. But in severe forms can
lead to organ failure and skin
infections. The bacterium has been
referred to as the "flesh eating"
bacteria.

A college spokeswoman says the

spend the next few months in jail.

December 7 39-year-old Israel Yarbrough was found
guilty on five counts of brandishing a
firearm.

Yarbrough walked into the Newbold
Corporation last December with a gun,

but did NOT fire it.

Investigators described Yarbrough as a
disgruntled former employee who left
the company the day before.

He was sentenced to five months in
jail, and fined 500-dollars.

where thousands of dollars were
exchanged playing Texas Holdem.

Officers executed a search
warrant at the Terrace View Apartments
in Blacksburg last week.

Police allege Edwin Park was
running an illegal gambling operation
out of his apartment.

According to the search warrant,
the game was running almost every night
and thousands of dollars were being
exchanged.

The investigation reveals the
house reserved the right to a minimal
rake of 10-percent each hand.

Also, a computer kept track
of the players and how much money they
were spending.

We went by the apartment Monday
afternoon and the person who answered
the door says Park is his roomate and
that he is a Virginia Tech student.

As we were leaving, a man showed
up. We asked him if he was Edwin Park.

He said yes, but then declined
to comment any further.

Today the Supreme Court hears a case

that tests the limits of copyright in
the digital age.

It will consider whether Internet
file-sharing services are responsible
when their customers illegally swap
songs and movies.

A lower court ruled in favor of two
file-sharing services, Grokster and
Streamcast. It said they should not be
held liable for what online users do
with the software they provide for
free.

The ruling was a blow to recording
companies and movie studios.

launched an undercover investigation
called "Operation Red Light" -- to
eliminate prostitution in the Southwest
part of the city.

The operation was initiated last
summer in response to complaints from
residents.

For a quarter, dog owners can give
their pooches the equivalent of a pez

or skittles...a dried liver biscuit.



The machines are showing up all over
the city. Giving relief to owners

and their hungry mutts.

Todd Wilkinson was the one who came up
with the idea. Wilkinson and his

friend Brad Kramer started the company
Street Treats to market the

machines last year.

They started with one, now they have 20
machines around the city and

plan to set up at least 50 more over
the the next year.

was an assistant at VCU , has been
mentioned prominently..

But if UVa looks outside of
college to the NBA - they may find a
willing and able Marc Iavaroni. The
1978 UVA grad has been coaching in the

NBA for the past six years with the
Heat and now the Suns as an assistant.

Iavaroni was a member of UVa's
only ACC title team in 1976, plus he
was a graduate assistant at Virginia in
1981 and he also worked on UVa radio
network in the mid-90s.

He is a link to the past that
might be able to lead UVa into the
future.
