GRAPHIC=Accident A Halifax County woman is dead


after falling asleep at the wheel last
night.

Around 8:30, police say 52 year
old Karen Lucado McKinney was
travelling east on Route 360, about a
half mile west of Scottsburg Road--
when she fell asleep, ran off the road
and up an embankment.

She was ejected from the car and
died at the scene.

to the hospital after being hit by a
car yesterday evening.

Just before six, David Maloof was
using a crosswalk at the intersections
of Alumni Mall and North Main Street
when the accident happened.

He was taken to Montgomery
Regional Hospital with non-life
threatening injuries.

Joseph Crute, of Chesapeake,
Virginia was charged with failure to
yeild the right of way to a pedestrian.

of mail at Christmas time.

pled guilty to one count of theft of
mail by a postal employee.

McKenna is accused of stealing at
least FOUR thousand letters, packages
and other pieces of mail in Roanoke
City and County.

Under a plea agreement, McKenna
agrees NOT to seek employment with or
enter a U-S postal building for the
rest of his life -- except to conduct
personal business.

He could be fined up to
250-thousand dollars and-or five years
in prison.

Health authorities are still
trying to find the source of deadly
infections at the Lakeview assisted
living facility.

Yesterday, a specialist in
hospital infections reviewed patients'
charts, and looked at handwashing
procedures.

the five Lakeview residents who
contracted the severe form of the
infection, 13 others carried of the
bacteria.

standing at her stop on Patrick Henry
Drive Monday morning around 7:20, when
a man pulled up in a car and asked her

to get in.

The girl says she refused and
that the man drove off.

He may have pulled into a nearby
parking lot because another student
passing by in a car says she saw the
same man sneaking through a row of
trees.

The school bus pulled up just as
the man got directly behind the
potential victim.

one that benefits the Harrison Museum
of African American Culture .

Under his changes, the museum is
allotted 50- thousand dollars.

The Virginia Horse Center gets an
additional ten- thousand, while nearly
three million will go to State Police
and Sheriff's Deputies for pay raises.

Money for the Art Museum of

of Fine Arts was also included in the
amendments.

More than five- million was added
to the governor's economic development
plan.

The Governor also made some
changes to the higher education

restructuring bill.
