A NEW STUDY SUGGESTS PEOPLE AT RISK FOR
DEVELOPING STROKES CAUSED BY BLOCKED
ARTERIES... SHOULD CONSIDER TAKING
ASPIRIN INSTEAD OF A COMMON
ANTI-CLOTTING DRUG.
(VO)
RESEARCHERS SAY ASPIRIN WORKED JUST AS
WELL AS THE MEDICATION, WARFARIN, IN
STROKE PATIENTS WITH NARROWED BRAIN
ARTERIES. BUT THOSE ON WARFARIN
SUFFERED A HIGHER DEATH RATE AND
INCREASED BLEEDING COMPARED TO ASPIRIN
USERS. THE FINDINGS ARE IN TODAY'S NEW
ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE.//
(VO)
AN AMBITIOUS NEW STUDY WILL FOCUS ON
HOW TO COMBAT THE HIGH RISK OF DIABETES
AND HYPERTENSION IN AFRICAN-AMERICANS.
RESEARCHERS WILL FOLLOW MORE THAN
15-HUNDRED PATIENTS FOR FIVE YEARS. THE
GOAL: TO FIND OUT HOW MUCH OF AN IMPACT
HIGHLY-TRAINED DOCTORS AND SPECIALIZED
COUNSELING HAVE ON CONTROLLING THE TWO
DISEASES. THE STUDY IS BEING PAID FOR
BY THE NATIONAL HEART, LUNG AND BLOOD
INSTITUTE.//
(VO)
AND HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT ABOUT THE
HEALTH OF THE ENTIRE PLANET?
A REPORT BY THE UNITED NATIONS SAYS THE
EARTH'S HEALTH IS DETERIORATING, AS THE
HUMAN DEMAND FOR FOOD AND WATER

GROWING POPULATIONS AND EXPANDING
ECONOMIES HAVE EITHER DAMAGED OR
