FROM A URINARY TRACT INFECTION
ON THURSDAY.
BY FRIDAY NIGHT, THE POPE'S CONDITION
HAD WORSENED. HE WAS
EXPERIENCING KIDNEY FAILURE AND FURTHER
DIFFICULTY BREATHING. AS ONE
CARDINAL PUT IT, THE POPE IS ON THE
VERGE OF DEATH.

getting better. His condition has been
upgraded to "fair" condition and his
family says he's showing improvement
every day.

Falwell was admitted Tuesday after
going into respiratory arrest ... a
condition brought on by congestive
heart failure.
His son, Jonathan, said yesterday
that the 71-year-old pastor was up and
walking around a little more.
Doctors performed some tests to

no results have been released.
Falwell will remain hospitalized
at least through the weekend.

Roanoke Regional Airport as he made his
way back to his home town.

Lance Corporal Jordan Sherwood
was wounded in Iraq when insurgents
attacked his transport.
Shrapnel injured his neck, and
Sherwood almost lost his leg.
For his injuries he received the
second of his two Purple Hearts.
Until Friday, he had been
recovering at Bethesda Naval Hospital.
Sherwood attended Patrick Henry
High School before moving to Arizona.

nationally as the unemployment rate
continues to climb.
Although 110-thousand jobs were
created last month, that number is
about half of what was expected.
However an increase of employment
in professional and business services,
construction, education and health care
somewhat compensated for the loss felt
in the retail and manufacturing
sectors.
Also according to governmental
surveys, the unemployment rate dropped
from two-tenths of one percent to
five-point-two percent.
