(END SOT) The roar was deafening as drivers

fought for position, and fans cheered
on their favorite car.

NAT SOUND:CARS

But it was before the cars were
even on the track that fans started
noticing a changing Martinsville
Speedway.

A new safety fence surrounding

the track, and of course, what was a
working railroad track less than two
weeks ago was gone.

But the FIRST change fans saw was
the new security rules, like the new
regulations on coolers.

:10 MIKE SMITH:THE OLD SIZE WAS
FOURTEEN BY FOURTEEN. SO THIS IS A BIT
SMALLER BUT IT IS STILL LARGE ENOUGH
THAT YOU CAN GET SIX OR EIGHT CANS OF
YOUR FAVORITE BEVERAGE IN IT.

The track was bought by the
International Speedway Corporation, and
therefore, is now adopting the ISC's
security policy.

Not only will fans have to bring
a smaller cooler, but they'll have to
carry their race gear in clear bags.

:03 GEORGE MARTIN:BEFORE YOU COULD
BRING IN A WHOLE CASE OF BEER IN NO
PROBLEM.

BUTT BUTT BUTT

:07 ALAN SATTERFIELD:I STILL THINK
THAT YOU OUGHT TO BE ABLE TO BRING A
DECENT SIZED COOLER IN BECAUSE THEY ARE
GOING TO CHECK IT EITHER WAY SO YOU
SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET A LARGE ON IN
HERE.

Most fans understood the change.

But others are still not happy
with the smaller cooler size.

And some aren't HAPPY about it at
all.

:08 MAXINE HODGES:I JUST GAVE HIM MY
COOLER, AND I'VE GOT MY POP IN MY BAG
AND I WILL DRINK IT HOT, BUT I WON'T BE
BACK.

Another change is the beer sales.

The Advance Auto 500 is the first
race in the Martinsville Speedway to
sell beer in the concessions stands.

And that issue again, had race
fans on both sides of the fence.

:07 ALAN SATTERFIELD:MAYBE HALF OF THE
CROWD GOING TO WANT TO GO THAT WAY BUT
SOME OF US AINT GOING TO DO IT.////JUST
TO EXPENSIVE FOR SOME?///YEAH IT'S JUST
TO HIGH.

BUTT BUTT BUTT

:12 JEREMY BUTTERFIELD:THE FANS
REACTIONS TO BEER SALES IN THE STANDS
WAS MIXED. CONCESSIONS STAFF SAYS THE
SALES STARTED OUT SLOW, BUT EXPECTED
THE BIG RUSH MID-WAY THROUGH WHEN
PEOPLE STARTED RUNNING OUT OF THEIR OWN
DRINKS IN THEIR SMALLER COOLERS. JEREMY

CBS Sports Tiger got himself in positon for :00 the win with a strong third round
finish this morning, but the shot that
shook Augusta was this one that Tiger
hit on the 16th hole.

Sitting off the back of the green
- it looked like he facing a certain
bogey - instead the "seeing eye birdie"
- featured a Nike gofl ball loaded with
drama as it teased the gallery before

dropping in the cup. But Tiger would
bogey the next two holes and leave the
door open for DiMarco.

This pitch from below the hole on
18 almost went in for birdie. Had it
fallen - DiMarco would have won the
Masters title in regulation.

Instead, the two went back to the
18th tee to begin a playoff. And Tiger
would end it on a putt reminiscent of
ones Sandy Lyle and Phil Mickelson hit
to seal their respective green jackets.

Tiger dedicated his fourth
Masters title to his Dad Earl - who is
in poor health.

Hurricanes vs. Hokies It was definitely a day to lather :00 on generous portions of sun screen or
to simply find a way to shade yourself
from the sun.

Fans weren't the only ones who
had to protect themselves. Danny
Figueroa lays down the bunt. Tech
second baseman Matt Hacker has to hurry
up and cover the bag at first, and
check out the collision at first knocks

Hacker's hat and shades in the dirt.

The Hokies also made some serious
contact today banging out 11 hits.
Glenvar's Nate Parks - the Tech
centerfielder had a big day going three
for four and scoring a run for Chuck
Hartman's team.

Parks would get one of four Tech
run in the third. Three of them came
off the bat of Jose Cueto, who cranked
this three run homer off of Miami's
Ricky Orta over the left field fence.
The Hokies were top 4-to-2 after three.

But it's hard to hold Miami to
just two runs, and despite some great
defensive efforts from the Hokies like
this great double play from Tech
catcher Matt Foley - Miami took a
5-to-4 lead into the 8th.

The Hokies then went to their
bench and pinch hitter Jose Rojas came
through. His single to the outfield
was deep enough to chase home Tom
Blaszak - who just beat the tag and
we're tied at 5 heading to the ninth. *CG final Miami
9 But the Hokies gave up four Virginia Tech unearned runs in the 9th inning and 5 waste a solid effort losing to Miami
Canes Sweep Series 3-to-0 9-to-5.

Tech plays at Liberty on
Wednesday.

Avalanche vs. Nationals This little guy was having fun
regardless of what was happening on the
field. And that was very little
offense for the home team.

Salem would score it's only run of
the game in the Bottom of the fourth as
Adam Suess would get one past the first
baseman into right field scoring John
Fagan from second.

Potomac would get that run back in
the top of the 5th as Doc Brooks would
drive one all the way to the wall.
Kory Casto would score to make it 3 to
1 Nationals.

The Av's had there chances 2 on and

1 out for Justin Humphries. *CG final Nationals but the big first baseman grounds into 3 the double play. Salem left 5 runners Avalanche on base in a 3 to 1 loss.
