2 5-year-old Channell Ricarda
Burnette of Roanoke was arrested around
Midnight, in connection with the death
of 43-year-old Diana Lynn Blaney.

Saturday Blaney died Saturday, after
police say she was hit by a vehicle in
the one-thousand block of Gilmer
Avenue.

Burnette has been charged with
murder.

She's being held in the Roanoke
City jail under no bond.

Police are NOT releasing any more
details about the case at this time.

hospital will soon have a new online
tool to help them.

Starting this month, patients can
compare 17 indicators that show how
often hospitals provide certain
recommended care practices that are
widely accepted as standards for good
care.

The web site was established by
the federal Centers for Medicare, and
Medicaid Services, in partner with a
public-private group.

positions.

The city says it's made a slight
improvement from last year, with the
recent hiring of two minority key
positions -- Director of Management and
Budget -- and Manager of Purchasing.

But, officials say they still need to
work on increasing the number of women
and people of color -- through heavy

The city has also hired a consultant
firm to further assess its diversity
needs.

Ukraine, continues to be a learning
experience for both groups.

turn to come to Roanoke-- and yesterday
the group saw some of the city's more
beautiful lookouts.

The Roanoke Star is always a hit
with visitors and the trip to the
overlook was no different.

be filled with meetings between
themselves and WDBJ-7 employees, so
that both groups can learn from one

group finally has enough money to stack
its shelves.

The Montgomery-Floyd Library
Foundation has reached its *300-
thousand dollar* goal.


The group needed to raise the
money for the new Meadowbrook Public
Library --which is being constructed in
the former Meadowbrook Nursing Home in
Shawsville.

The money will be used to buy
books, movies, magazines and computer
materials.

The renovation project- which is
being funded by the county- should be
finished by October.

ENG#=1 season at Martinsville Speedway saw a


few changes for drivers, and fans this
weekend.

The track has been resurfaced, a
new safety fence surrounds the track,
and what was a working railroad track
barely a week ago is gone.

But the FIRST change fans saw was
the new security rules.

Now fans have to carry all their
gear in clear bags, and there are new
regulations on coolers.

grand-stands at the Martinsville
Speedway, it's obvious there are a lot
of visitors in Martinsville during a
race weekend, and the thousands of fans

Davis packed up his flea market
goods after the race started yesterday
afternoon.

Davis says race weekend is a huge
boost for him and he would hate to see
that go.
