drug operation in the New River Valley
pled guilty today.

others were arrested last summer and
charged with distributing crack
cocaine, illegally possessing and using
firearms and assaulting witnesses.

June 28, 2004 pled guilty, but Lighty changed his
plea today after the testimony of nine
witnesses.
Authorities believe Lighty and his
group distributed as much as 10-million
dollars worth of cocaine since November
of 1999.
Lighty faces at least forty years in

Board is investigating this morning's
fatal school bus crash in Arlington.

A nine-year old girl was killed and
fourteen others injured when the bus
collided head-on with a garbage truck
at a busy intersection.
Students attended kinderagarten
through fifth grade.
Police say the bus was trying to
make a left turn when it hit the truck.
Both drivers and one child were
hospitalized in critical condition.
The other injured children were
treated for minor injuries and
released.
Officials won't speculate on which
driver may have been at fault, however
they do say speed was not a factor.

is suspended after allegedly assaulting
an eleven-year old girl with a knife on
a school bus.

toward Collierstown Friday afternoon,
when the victim was cut on her neck and
forearm.
She did not require medical
attention and was back in class at
Maury River Middle School today.
The alleged assailant was held over

He's been suspended indefinitely
while school officials investigate.
It's unclear what prompted the
attack.

cruise ship are relieved to be home
after being hit by a huge wave this
weekend.

About 300-passengers disembarked
in South Carolina while the rest
travelled all the way to New York.
The freak 7-story wave hit the
Norwegian Dawn as it traveled back to
the US from the Bahamas Saturday night.
The wave minorly injured four
people, flooded cabins, broke windows
and damaged property.
The ship made an emergency call
to the US Coast Guard.
Norwegian has refunded 50-percent
of passengers' tickets and offered
them half off their next cruise.

than 20 thousand runners competed in
the 109th event.

Kenyans own this event.
But today, Ethiopia's Hailu
Negussie (HY'-loo neh-GOO'-see)
won the Boston Marathon to break the
Kenyan stranglehold on the
world's oldest annual marathon event.
Negussie, who was fifth last
year, finished in an unofficial time of
two
hours, eleven minutes and 45 seconds to
earn the $100-thousand-dollar first
place prize. Kenyans had won 13 of the
previous 14 men's races.
However, the defending champion
on the women's side saved the day for
the Kenyans. Catherine Ndereba
(duh-RAY'-buh) of became the first
woman to
win four Boston Marathons. Her
unofficial time was two hours, 25
minutes and 12 seconds.
