the man they say shot another earlier
this month.

38 year old Dwayne Fitzgerald of
Danville was taken into custody
yesterday -- for a shooting that
happened on Beaver Mill Road two weeks
ago.

Police say Fitzgerald shot a man
in the lower back during a party.

He's charged with malicious
wounding, and using a firearm during
the commission of a felony.

of a major drug ring in the New River
Valley has changed his mind -- and is
now pleading guilty.

VO-NAT Richard Lamont Lighty and


thirteen others were arrested last
summer and charged with distributing

crack cocaine, illegally possessing and
using firearms and assaulting
witnesses.
*CG locator Radford The thirteen others had already June 28 pled guilty, but Lighty changed his
plea yesterday after the testimony of
nine witnesses.

Authorities believe Lighty and
his group distributed as much as
10-million dollars worth of cocaine
since November of 1999.

Lighty faces at least forty years
in prison.

year turned ugly -- as more than 400
people face charges around the Radford
University Campus.

VO-NAT Quad Fest happens every year at


Radford.

It's a non alcoholic event where
students listen to bands.

But many students take the whole
weekend to celebrate spring.


These are pictures from Fairfax
street, where police say they had the
most trouble.

Radford called in nearby police
agencies to help control the crowd.

Officers say at one point at
least two thousand people were on
Fairfax street.

Throughout the whole weekend,
police wrote more than 400 citations.

Most were alcohol related...
ranging from open containers to
underage possession.

Players are randomly tested
several times before and during the
season.

Last year, less than two percent
of the tests were positive.

A player caught taking the
performance enhancing drug faces a 15
game suspension for the first offense
-- and this year, players will be
publicly identifed for their drug use.

Initially, it seemed that only
his lip was busted.


His mother says when she picked
him up- the cut in his lip had not been

Museum of Natural History is starting
to take shape.

Crews have been working since
June to build the 15-million dollar
facility, which will be three times the
size of the current museum.

Officials say it will house
permanent and temporary exhibits, a
lecture hall and an orientation
theater.

Jerry Falwell Junior confirms
that Hobby Lobby paid somewhere between
four and ten million dollars at auction
for the Washington D.C.-area company
and its assets.

Reverend Falwell told his
congregation yesterday that Hobby Lobby
intends to donate the property and all
the television equipment to Jerry
Falwell Ministries.

The Oklahoma-based craft store
chain bought Lynchburg's Ericsson
building last year and gave it to
Falwell to expand his university and
relocate his church.

allegedly assaulted an eleven-year old
girl with a knife has been suspended
indefinitely.

Bus number sixty-nine was heading
toward Collierstown Friday afternoon,
when the victim was cut on her neck and
forearm.

She did not require medical
attention and was back in class at
Maury River Middle School yesterday.

The alleged assailant was held over
the weekend and was released into his
mother's custody yesterday morning.

He's been suspended indefinitely
while school officials investigate.

It's unclear what prompted the
attack.

raise the city's meals tax to pay for a
new high school.

million dollar spending plan Monday.
It reflects an increase of 12-million
dollars, or five- point- six- eight
percent over the current budget.

The proposal includes an average
raise of three percent for city
employees.

The plan would increase some user
fees, including admission to the city's
pools and fitness centers.

A one percent increase in the
meals tax would generate more than two
million dollars for the new high
school.
