GRAPHIC=FOREST FIRE Firefighters can thank the rain
yesterday for sending them home -- and
again today for allowing them to work
with a skeleton crew in the mountains
of Franklin County.

The fire crews fought the blaze
on Turkeycock mountain throughout the
day and had it pretty well contained by
the evening.
Flare-ups were occurring in spots
across the ridge line however by night
fall rain showers began to move in and
douse the mountain blaze.
That gave crews the chance to
come off the mountain for the night.
Officials say they'll only need a
few people out there today to get the
flames under control.

along a three mile stretch of Mason's
Creek -- after a chemical spill earlier
this week.

The chemical was traced back to
Novozymes on Kesler Mill Road.
Salem's fire Chief says the
company installed a floor drain that
officials believed drained into the
sewer system, but actually drained into
Masons Creek.
HazMat teams contained the spill,
but Salem officials caution residents
to stay out of Masons Creek until
further notice.
Novozyms president says he
"really regrets" what happened, and
says the company will do whatever it
takes to prevent it from happening
again.

when she lived in Roanoke say they're
devastated about the capitol murder
charge facing her for the death of her
small child.

38-year-old Andrea Petrosky
appeared in court yesterday where the
state increased the charges against her
to Capitol Murder.
Police allege Petrosky choked her
six-year-old son last Friday until he
passed out then held him underwater in
the bathtub.
Petrosky, her husband Tim and
their two children lived in

One neighbor says Tim was his
pharmacist- he says the family took
walks together and seemed very close.

is planning to invest 36-million
dollars into a project that will expand
the plant and add nearly a hundred.
The plant's been operating in

accident."
Two Virginia Tech students are
RUN OVER by a truck -- and escape with
only minor bruises and scratches.

were sleeping out on the Drillfield for
an Earth Day event when a truck
delivering chairs rolled right over
them.
Neither was seriously injured and
neither wanted to see the driver of the
truck, Aaron Barr charged.

their research projects at a national
conference.

fleeing suspect as the man jumped 45
feet off a bridge, says he didn't think
about how easily he could have been
pulled over the edge himself.

he and another officer had just gotten
the suspect out of his car on Route
220, when the man turned around and
jumped.

keep James Earl Williams, Junior, from
going over the edge by grabbing his
shirt.
But Williams slipped from the
officer's grasp and fell 45 feet.
