looks empty, only one day after it was
swarming with police officers, looking
for a shooter.

Police dogs, helicopters, and
officers combed the park, looking for
any evidence of 35 year-old Derick
Martin.

Police say Martin shot Charles
Spinner in the stomach and then ran

off.

Some nearby residents say they
didn't hear the gun shots, and were
surprised to see police just across the
street.

this morning.

A third-party contractor was
drilling off of Dillard Road in the
Madison Heights section of the county,
when he struck a gas line just before
nine o'clock.

Two local businesses were
affected -- O'Neil Steel and Quality
Foods.

Officials say neither business
was open, but the Quality Foods
building had to be ventilated.

A *spokesman* for Columbia Gas of
Virginia says workers were able to make
the area safe again just after ten
o'clock, but repairs are ongoing.

He says service should be

returned by tonight or early tomorrow
depending on the needs of the
businesses.

2007.

Even though it's still years away
- three local organizations have
pledged 50-thousand dollars to get the

The money is going toward the new
Botetourt Sports Complex's
baseball-softball center -- at
Greenfield Recreation Park.

Two-hundred thousand dollars has
already been designated for the project
by the Virginia Department of
Conservation and Recreation.

Construction will begin this

Halifax County has resulted in the
arrests of two men.

VO-NAT 37-year-old Bruce Alonzo Cribbs of


South Boston, and 38-year-old Bobby
Samuel Francis of Halifax were both
arrested Friday on drug-related
charges.

Authorities say the arrests stem from
an ongoing drug investigation -- in
which they recovered large amounts of
cash, drugs and other stolen items.

Both men are in custody under no bond.

More arrests are expected.

the person wanted for a hit and run
last night.

Officials say 37-year-old David Lee
Dickerson was found lying on a sidewalk
in the 700 block of Giles Road around
11:30 last night.

He had been hit by a car.

Dickerson WAS able to give
officials a license plate number and
brief description of the vehicle before
being flown to Roanke Memorial
Hospital.

There's no word on his condition.

Friday Greg Akers Acres is wanted on

several charges including drug,
robbery, and abduction -- in Floyd and
Montgomery Counties.

Friday, Pulaski County Sheriff's
deputies along with DEA and *A-T-F
agents* -- were out in full-force
searching the Oakview subdivisions in
Pulaski County.

Agents had their guns drawn, as
helicopters circled overhead.. but had
no luck finding Akers.

He's considered armed and
dangerous.

Lynchburg College the number two seed
took on sixth seeded Hampden-Sydney -
the Cinderella in this year's tourney.

Lynchburg took a two to nothing
lead, but Hampden Sydney right back in
it in the third. An error allowed
Heritage product Josh Apperson to stay
on base, and he made the Hornets pay,
as senior Michael Clark finds a hole

will motor around and score to make it
a 2-to-1 game.

Another key Lynchburg error in
the fourth on what should have been a
routine putout in the infield allowed
Hampden Sydney to tie the game. First
baseman Tommy Burk will tag on Luke

A total of six Hokies and
Cavaliers were selected today.

who was very impressive at the Tech NFL
workout. Vinny was the seventh pick in

Two more UVa players went in the
fourth round including Alvin Pearman -
the talented tailback was taken with
