evening resulted in an overturned
tractor trailer and a highway covered
in PVC pipe.

It happened around 6-thirty tonight
near Rocky Mount.
State Police say the tractor trailer
was heading north on route 220 when it
rounded a curve too fast, causing its
load to shift.
The shifting weight caused the
driver to lose control of the truck,
and it overturned.
Police say the driver from North
Carolina will be charged with reckless
driving.
He was not injured.
Police say one northbound lane is
currently blocked, but both lanes will
have to be shut down at some point to
clean up the accident and get the truck
back upright.

It took them about fourteen hours,
but emergency crews in Pittsylvania
County finally got a tanker truck wreck
cleared with "no" hazardous materials
being spilled.
The truck carrying four thousand
gallons of liquid oxygen ran off Route
29 and flipped onto its side just south
of Gretna around three a-m.
The driver suffered minor injuries
.. he's been charged with failing to
maintain control of his vehicle.
State police say it appears he
fell asleep at the wheel.
Some of the liquid oxygen escaped
through a safety valve, but authorities
say there was no risk to the public.
They spent the day transferring
most of the material to another truck
before using air bags to get it upright
again.

involved in a minor accident with a
dump truckon Bent Mountain Road today.
It happened around two forty-five,
when bus number forty-five and the
truck struck mirrors as they passed
each other.
The driver of the truck was
hospitalized for injuries received from
glass.
No injuries were reported to the
elementary students on the bus or the
bus driver.

He's charged with polluting a
tributary of the Roanoke River.

allege a sewage lagoon at the trailer
park routinely discharged sewage into
Sandy Creek for years and that Cooper
ignored orders to fix it.
Cooper's lawyer says Cooper tried

give him a discharge permit.
Attorney Paul Thompson says
Cooper tried to find a low-tech
alternative, but that with his limited
education it didn't work.

homosexuality to the heart of Liberty
University today.
Some members of the group
Soulforce expected confrontation but
were welcomed instead.

the weekend and most folks were shaking
their heads wondering how in the world
ACC player of the Year Bryan Randall
could go through the entire process
without being selected.
Tonight, I talked with Randall
-the newest member of the Atlanta
Falcons - on the phone about how
disappointing and frustrating the
weekend was for him.

and his agent felt like the Arizona
Cardinals would come calling with a
free agent offer. But before they
could get in touch with him the Falcons
made him an offer he couldn't refuse.
And despite what you might think - he's
excited about once again playing in
Michael Vick's shadow.

Randall proved that he was the best at
least in the ACC last season, and he is
determined to make the most of this
NFL opportunity and prove to the
Falcons that they got one heck of a
bargain.

get drafted went the free agent route.
Tennessee all-American lineman
Michael Munoz, the son of NFL hall of
famer Anthony Munoz has decided to quit
football altogether. Munoz started 46
games in his career despite numerous
injuries, but when he was not drafted
Sunday he decided to hang up his cleats
for good.

landed a deal with the Arizona

The biggest General Motors recall is
for nearly one and a half million SUV's
and pickups made between 2003 and 2005.
The recall has been blamed on the
seat belt design.
G-M says there were only minor
injuries in connection with that
problem.
Saturns and Buicks are also being
recalled for other problems.
G-M says owners of the recalled
vehicles will be notified by mail, and
the problems will be fixed free of
charge.

shelter is finally open for business.

The shelter's been open for about
two weeks now and officials say they
are already placing more animals.
The facility sits on two acres
and has more kennels for dogs and a
spay and neuter clinic.
There's even a cat condo, an
outdoor walking area and an education
room for school groups to tour.
The building was paid for mostly
through donations.
The group still needs to raise
another 30-thousand dollars.
