Keydets vs. Hokies English field has had it problems
:00 with wet conditions this year, but the
rain stayed away tonight - however, the
chilly weather did not.
In the bottom of the second, Tech
is trailing 2-to-nothing, but the
Hokies' Warren Schaeffer will hit one
to deep right field. The shot will
drive home Matt Foley from second.
Schaeffer ends up at third and Tech
gets within a run at 2-to-1.
The Keydets would come right back
in the third and load the bases.
Stephen Parsons will make contact in
the infield to third, and it's enough
to get Robert Crumpler home. VMI
pushes its lead to 3-to-1.
*CG final VMI
6 In the fourth, the Hokies' Foley
Virginia Tech would yank one completely out of the
2 yard. But the solo shot was all Tech
would get. VMI beats the Hokies 6-to-2
for the team's 20th win of the season.

The run made it a one to nothing

(END SOT) Classic is played each year to raise
money and awareness. In its five years
of existence 100 thousand dollars has
been collected to help curb Roanoke's
dropout rate. Over than span of time
more than 400 world be dropouts have
returned to school.
((SHERMAN LEA:))
And it's that social aspect of
the Classic that would be a real shame
to lose.
((SHERMAN LEA))
Lea had high hopes of bringing in
Virginia Union and Winston Salem State
this year.
A matchup that would certainly
draw a huge crowd.
It still might happen, but not if
the city leaders simply throw up some
bleachers around the track and bring in
porta johns.

councilman, and last week he asked
City Manager Darlene Burcham to
consider this game in the city's
football planning for the fall.
But - because the college
athletic directors need to get their
schedules nailed down as soon as
possible, Lea says a final decision on
the fate of the game will have to be
made no later than mid-May.
