the toppled cars upright.

The train derailed yesterday
afternoon while workers with the
American Rock Salt Company were
unloading salt.

Neighbors say they've been
fighting the company for three years
because the salt is corroding their
cars and homes.

City officials say there isn't
much they can do because the company
complies with all local and state
regulations.

wide net in their search for
information about Lynchburg mayor Carl
Hutcherson.

News7 has learned that several
current city council members were

called into the city attorney's office
this week and handed subpoenas to
testify before a federal grand jury
next month regarding the probe into
Hutcherson's finances.

investigation has expanded into
Campbell County as well.

Hutcherson first became the target
of a federal investigation back in
February.

Authorities reportedly want to
know more about how he spent a
32-thousand dollar donation from the

Jerry Falwell Ministries to his church,
Trinity United Methodist.

The money was supposed to help
establish a community development
corporation, but Hutcherson's project
never received non-profit tax exempt
status.

The donation also came just a
short time before Hutcherson was the
only Lynchburg council member to vote
in favor of a proposed shopping center
on the Lynchburg - Campbell County line
... at the time Jerry Falwell Junior
was the attorney representing the
shopping center's developer but Falwell
Junior says there was "no" connection
between the donation and the project.

Details concerning that
development may be why Campbell County
administrator David Laurell also has
been subpoenaed to appear before the
grand jury.

Laurell tells us he's not aware of
any other Campbell officials who also
have been summonsed.

rest of colllege football will be
allowed to schedule 12 games. This was
approved by the NCAA board of directors
with the only opposing vote coming from
the A-C-C. The defending A-C-C
champion hokies have been finished with
Spring football for two weeks, but
there is still plenty of work that
remains to be done in the offseason in
Blacksburg.

the Division 3 national polls. They
are 13 and 1 with their only loss
coming to number 1 Salisbury.

Alumni Field The Maroons swept through the ODAC
regular season undefeated and will play
for the conference tourney title on
Sunday at home against Lynchburg. If
they win the Maroons will receive a bid
to the D-3 tournament and what Roanoke
hopes will be a re-match with
Salisbury. Roanoke has a long history
of Lacrosse success, the school owns

and national title back in 1978 and
current head coach Bill Pilat took the
1992 team all the way to the title
game. This team has a chance to be in
that category.

you have to think that both Jeff Gordon
and Dale Earnhardt Junior both had a
good shot at the pole.

First driver out of the chute was
last week's winner Kurt Busch, no

5th on the grid.

Junior has been better the last
couple weeks, not his best effort

from the Homestead Resort in Hot
Springs across the mountains and into
Bedford.

Stu Gillespie, Roman Killum and
Jeremy Bishop were the top three
finishers in today's stage.

Riders will race from Lexington to
Waynesboro tomorrow with a 35-mile
criterium scheduled for Sunday.
