GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident A teenager is dead following an
accident this morning in Halifax
County.
It happened around seven o'clock on
Route 501, north of 643.
State police say 17-year-old Jeffrey
Allen *Wilkerson* of Halifax was
traveling north, when his car crossed
the center line and hit a
tractor-trailer head on.
*Wilkerson* was pronounced dead at the
scene.
He'd just celebrated his 17th-birthday
Tuesday.
There's no word on the condition of the
truck driver.
Police are still trying to figure out
what happened.

association's 2005 report. States were
graded based on the reported levels of

dipped in March, but it's still the
highest in Virginia.
The unemployment rate for the
area was seven-point-three percent last
month.
That's more than double that of
all other metropolitan areas, except
Lynchburg, which posted four percent

statistical area includes the River
City and Pittsylvania County.
The city of Danville trailed

a little less complicated than a year
ago. The Lady Hokies were saying
goodbye to Bonnie Hendrickson and Hello
to Beth Dunkenberger.

VO-NAT The Vinton Dogwood Festival marked its
50th anniversary this year -- and
organizers celebrated in a big way with
this year's parade.
An estimated 40-thousand people crowded
downtown to watch plenty of bands,
floats, and for the first time giant
helium balloons.
This year, 28 former presidents of the
Dogwood Festival served as the grand
marshals.
The nine-day festival will officially
wrap up later tonight.
