say the driver of a Dodge Neon was
killed near the Hollins exit on

Interstate 81, when he crossed the
center line, hit a pick up truck and
then hit a tractor trailer.

Harley Darrel Henley, Jr. died at

filed.

accident in Franklin County.

39-year-old Paul Edward Crawford of
Roanoke was driving a Ford pick-up when
he ran off the right side of the road
on Route 122.

The vehicle overcorrected twice, struck
a guardrail and then hit a tree.

The passenger -- 35-year-old Robert
William Stoops of Boones Mill -- also
died on the scene.

Police say neither man was wearing a
seat belt.

Patrick County.

State police say it happened around
four o'clock yesterday on Clarkhouse
Farm Road, west of route-730.

Authorities say 57-year-old Goldie
Turner Nichols of Greensboro died when
her car ran off the side of the road,
and overturned several times.

Two other people were treated and
released at the hospital.

Another was flown to Wake Forest
Medical center.

That person is listed in stable
condition.

The Federal Reserve meets Tuesday to
talk interest rates.. Fed Chief Alan
Greenspan and company will decide
whether to raise rates on signs of
inflation, or hold the line because of
the slowing economy.



And we get more clues about the health
of the economy Friday, with the April
unemployment report.



On Wall Street...the Dow marched higher
Friday after oil skidded more than 4%
to below $50 a barrel ...

Dow raced ahead 122 points

sp climbed 13 and a half

nasdaq rose 17 points



Qwest Communications may have the edge

over Verizon in the battle for the
right to buy MCI. Qwest says more
shareholders are in its corner. It says
shareholders owning more than half of
MCI's stock prefer its proposal over
that of Verizon. Verizon has until
Tuesday to raise its bid.



AIG delayed the Monday filing of its
annual report as it tries to assess the
imapct of its accounting errors. Those
errors could total 2.5 billion dollars.

Electric Steel.

Hemstock of Vinton -- was electrocuted
Saturday while doing maintenance work
on an overhead bridge crane.

Emergency crews tried to rescusitate
Hemstock, but he was pronounced dead
about an hour later.

Roanoke police have ruled the death an
accident.

The company says it is now conducting
its own investigation into the matter.

community -- after the state ruled
upgrades had to be made.

Now the group is opening up
membership to the lake for boating,
fishing and swimming- in hopes of
raising money.

sale -- but until it's sold- members
are responsible for upgrades which will
cost nearly 200-thousand dollars.

The community was cited for a
number of problems it must fix to
maintain the lake -- including an
emergency spillway that doesn't meet
minimum standards.

pick-up when he ran off the right side

The vehicle overcorrected twice, struck

Patrick County.

State police say it happened around
four o'clock yesterday on Clarkhouse
Farm Road, west of route-730.

Authorities say 57-year-old Goldie
Turner Nichols of Greensboro died when

and overturned several times.

Two other people were treated and
released at the hospital.

Another was flown to Wake Forest
Medical center.

That person is listed in stable
condition.

GOVERNING THE SALE OF THE DRUGS RATHER

LAST WEEK SEVERAL COMPANIES ANNOUNCED

THEY PLANNED TO MOVE COLD MEDICINE WITH

39-year-old Paul Edward Crawford of
Roanoke was driving a Ford pick-up when
he ran off the right side of the road
on Route 122.

The vehicle overcorrected twice, struck
a guardrail and then hit a tree.

The passenger -- 35-year-old Robert
William Stoops of Boones Mill -- also
died on the scene.

Police say neither man was wearing a

Patrick County.

State police say it happened around
four o'clock yesterday on Clarkhouse
Farm Road, west of route-730.

Authorities say 57-year-old Goldie
Turner Nichols of Greensboro died when
her car ran off the side of the road
and overturned several times.

Two other people were treated and
released at the hospital.

Another was flown to Wake Forest
Medical center.

That person is listed in stable
condition.

Now the group is opening up
membership to the lake for boating,
fishing and swimming- in hopes of
raising money.

The property is currently for
sale -- but until it's sold- members
are responsible for upgrades which will
cost nearly 200-thousand dollars.

The community was cited for a
number of problems it must fix to
maintain the lake -- including an
emergency spillway that doesn't meet
minimum standards.

State Police say Harley Darrel Henley,
Junior was killed when he crossed the
center line, hit a pick up truck and
then hit a tractor trailer.

Officials say no charges will be

Blacksburg police are searching for
someone who stabbed a Virginia Tech
student early yesterday morning.

They say twenty-three-year-old Frank
*Amponsah* was stabbed in the back
while he tried to help an employee
remove a couple of people from the
Burrus Square Tavern.

At last report, *Amponsah* is listed
in good condition at Roanoke Memorial
Hospital.
