fired as the head coach of Virginia
Tech.
He won an N-I-T title on Dave
Odom's staff at South Carolina back in
March. And now he's ready to prove he
has what it takes to be a successful

all-Americans that the 2004 national
champion U-Conn Huskies put in the NBA
last June, have certainly lived up to
their billing.

This afternoon - Emeka Okafor
edged his former U-Conn teammate Ben
Gordon for the NBA's rookie of the year
honor. Okafor led all rookies in
scoring and rebounding with 16 points
and 11 rebounds per contest. He ended
his season with 47 games in double
figures in both points and rebounds.
Gordon got an award today as
well, as he was named sixth man of the
year.
