Westover Avenue business -- located
inside the former Soda Shoppe.

The owner of the building says Holten
was renting the space temporarily --
after his electronics store on West
Main was damaged in February.

Today police raided that store as well
-- along with a restaurant on Riverside
Drive.

Six people were found shot to death
in the home of an investigator for a
California prosecutor today.

The bodies of the three adults and
three children were found after
deputies responded to a 9-1-1 call this
morning.

No one spoke- but the phone hit the
wall and a gunshot was heard.

There were no signs of forced entry
or struggle.

All but the owner- David McGowen-
were found in their beds- undisturbed.

Several guns were found in the
house- including a handgun close to
McGowen.

Authorities say they are not looking
for a suspect at this time.

say they never intended to pit employee
groups against each other as they
crafted a new budget.

Today, they made changes that
will give all employees a raise in
July.

A plan to bring parity among all
of the city's public safety employees
had angered other workers, when council
decided to delay a general pay raise
until January.

Today, the panel answered those
complaints by approving a three percent
raise for all employees July first.

Fire-EMS, and Sheriffs Department
employees will receive an additional
four percent bump in January.

The plan comes at a cost.

Council had to delay additional
funding for traffic signals, bridge
maintenance and stormwater management.

conflict between the Craig County board
of supervisors and the school board

At today's meeting, supervisors
were supposed to take a look at an
itemized budget request from the school
system.

But, the county administrator and
supervisors didn't receive the 20-pages

worth of information until 45-minutes
before the afternoon meeting.

The school board had asked for
six-point-nine million dollars in
federal, state and local funds, but the
county came in more than 850-thousand
dollars shy.

School Superintendent Rose Martin
says the board will meet next Tuesday
to try to get their numbers closer to
the county's.

drug bust this month.

On May 1st, police say they tried
to serve a warrant at a home on 6th
Avenue when officers noticed a bucket
on the porch filled with drug
paraphernalia.

So they got another search
warrant.

No one was home, but inside they
found two firearms, and 89 Marijuana
plants... some up to four feet tall.

So far, no one has been arrested.
